This is my second refinishing of a 6498. The first try was mainly to exercise beveling and the bridges were mostly rounded, whereas this time there are many internal and external angles. I did not touch the balance cock as it would require disassembling the balance system and I could not be bothered.
The first step was to modify the bridges, which I did with files and a scalpel (for the inner angles).
I frosted the bridges with coarse compounds and the results were not great, especially on the barrel bridge which has many recesses in which the coumpound gets stuck. In the end, I refinished the barrel bridge with a coarse 10mm texturing wheel.
For the beveling, I used first a cut 2 file, then a cut 6 file, then sand paper from grits 400 to 8000. I finished with diamond powder on a piece of wood.
